Want to learn how to sharpen lathe tools?

Sin City Woodworkers, a Vegas valley social and networking group committed to serious (and not so serious!) woodworking discussions, will now be meeting on the third Thursday of each month to share everything from techniques and ideas to information about local suppliers and much more.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 19, at 7:00, and one of the most requested topics that our members have mentioned is the sharpening of lathe tools. You asked for it… so Woodcraft class coordinator Phil Bourekas will demonstrate his technique for sharpening a variety of these tools, including a roughing gouge, a skew, and possibly one more.

Phil is an amateur woodworker, generally retired but works and teaches part time at Woodcraft.  He has over 30 years of woodworking experience at the advanced hobbyist level.

Woodcraft has a very nice selection of sharpening systems - but Phil will concentrate on the One Way Wolverine set-up, which is his sharpener of choice for lathe tools.

He’ll also briefly discuss a couple of others (Sorby, Tormek).  Time permitting - he’ll also demo sharpening a scraper on a grinder with traditional wheel. If you’ve struggled with sharpening your tools, this will be a terrific meeting to attend!

This meeting will be held at Woodcraft of Las Vegas at 5220 W. Charleston Blvd.  As always, the public is welcome to attend the meeting, so members - please feel free to bring a guest along. If you have questions or need directions, call (702) 672-8981.
