Start of Another Year

Well, let me be the last to wish you a Happy New Year. Hopefully 2014 didn't find you looking like this old guy although, like me; you may have woken up feeling this way a time or two!

     This Wednesday is the first meeting of the year at WoodItIs, located at 2267 West Gowan #106 in North Las Vegas.  If you need directions or have questions you can call the school at 702-631-1870.   As always, feel free to bring a guest and seating for yourself.  I wonder how many of you will be bringing in a new tool that "Santa" left under the tree for you for show & tell?  As usual we'll have a Show & Tell time where you can tell us about your latest project or tool.  Remember to keep that presentation under five minutes so we have ample time for our featured presenter.

Our presenter this month is Tim Mahoney and he will be sharing his version of the famous Sam Maloof chair. He has spent many months learning how to create the complicated joinery and sculpted forms of this chair.  For his presentation Tim will be bringing in a mock up of the joint as well as the tools and jigs required to accomplish building this iconic chair.  

In addition to his furniture work, Tim also does inlay work and builds musical instruments -- he may be bringing in some of that to share with us as well.  If you take a look at his WEBSITE you'll learn more about him.  As someone who grew up in the California delta I love his blog posts about the 1965 Chris Craft boat he restored, now that's a beautiful example of woodworking!

In any case, our meeting will begin at 7:00 pm and last until 9:00 or so depending on how talkative we are at the beginning of this New Year.
